A Brick man is recovering in a local hospital from self-inflicted stab wounds and facing charges over a related domestic dispute during which he allegedly assaulted his wife.<\/p>\n

Brick Police Capt. Timothy Boyle said officers were dispatched to Lime Road at 10:44 p.m. Saturday night, in response to a call reporting a dispute that resulted in injuries to a woman.<\/p>\n

When police arrived, they located Anthony Veltry, 51,\u00a0\u00a0in the downstairs portion of his residence, Boyle said.<\/p>\n

Veltry told\u00a0officers that he had a gun, said Boyle, after which they\u00a0continued to communicate with Veltry and set up a perimeter. Veltry eventually made his way to the doorway of the residence, Boyle said.<\/p>\n

At that point, the officers\u00a0observed Veltry to be holding a hunting knife \u2013 with a blade of approximately 6 inches, Boyle said \u2013 in one hand and a bottle of alcohol in the other.\u00a0 Veltry was covered in his own blood from self-inflicted stab wounds.<\/p>\n

Eventually, Veltry exited the residence and sat on the front porch holding the knife and continuing to drink\u00a0from the bottle. Veltry later claimed that he never had a gun, just knives. He also told officers that he wanted to die and they should shoot him.<\/p>\n

Officers continued to speak with Veltry until the department\u2019s crisis negotiator arrived on scene.<\/p>\n

\u201cSergeant Thomas took over communication with Veltry,\u201d said Boyle. \u201cVeltry advised officers on scene that he was going to give them a show. Veltry began to lightly poke the knife against his abdomen.\u201d<\/p>\n

A few minutes later, Boyle said, Veltry dropped the knife and rolled onto his side, at which point he was taken into custody. He\u00a0was treated by emergency medical services on scene and transported to an area hospital. Veltry remained in custody at the hospital pending transport to Ocean County Jail. \u00a0<\/p>\n

Municipal Court Judge Joseph Grisanti was contacted and issued an arrest warrant. Veltry was charged with aggravated assault and terroristic threats.<\/p>\n

No photo of Veltry was available. As is customary in such investigations, his alleged victim\u2019s name was not released publicly.<\/p>\n
