The Brick Township council this week will vote on whether to change \u2013 slightly \u2013 the hours lifeguards are stationed at the township\u2019s public beaches.<\/p>\n

An ordinance scheduled to be introduced at Tuesday\u2019s council meeting will set lifeguard hours from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. The previous hours were 8:45 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. Beaches will be guarded on weekends between Memorial Day weekend and June 15; from June 16 through Labor Day, beaches will be guarded daily. Beachgoers would be prohibited from swimming at unprotected beaches, the ordinance states.<\/p>\n

In recent years, numerous local communities have changed their lifeguard hours to accommodate those who swim later in the day. Brick maintains two guarded beaches on the ocean and a third at Windward Beach Park on the Metedeconk River.<\/p>\n

The meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. Tuesday at the municipal complex on Chambers Bridge Road.<\/p>\n
