Skateboarders in Brick will soon be in for a treat, officials say.<\/p>\n

The skateboard park at the Drum Point sports complex, which has often been subject to litter and some vandalism, will be closed down after a new, state-of-the-art park is built across town.<\/p>\n

Mayor John Ducey said this week that the new skate park will be constructed at Bernie Cooke Park, located near the western edge of Burnt Tavern Road behind the Wawa store on Lanes Mill Road. Work on the skate park \u2013 and Bernie Cooke Park as a whole \u2013 will begin after the Garden State Parkway interchange 91 project is completed.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s going to be state of the art,\u201d Ducey said, adding that the park\u2019s more visible location will cut down on some of the issues that were experienced at the Drum Point location.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe current one is off the beaten path, there\u2019s a lot of garbage there and our guys clean it up every three or four days,\u201d said Ducey. \u201cThere are a lot of bottles there.\u201d<\/p>\n

Like all of Brick\u2019s newly-renovated parks, Bernie Cooke will be equipped with security cameras. But most importantly, the skateboard area itself will feature all new equipment, replacing the aging and rough surfaces at Drum Point.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s been designed and we\u2019re just waiting to have the Parkway finished and we can start over there,\u201d said Ducey. \u201cIt will be state of the art, brand new, so you\u2019ll enjoy it when it\u2019s there.\u201d<\/p>\n
