(Photo: Daniel Nee)

As the Shore area gets its longest-yet taste of spring, Brick officials are thinking snow.

The township is currently looking to replace a slew of contracts adding up to $1.3 million for snow removal services. The current contracts expire July 18, and Brick is hoping to replace them as soon as possible in order to beat other towns to the punch for the best prices.

“It is in the township’s best interest to bid this out and get as many contractors under contract before other townships get this service,” said Council President Art Halloran.

Halloran said snow removal services will be bid out in eight categories – several defined by the weight of trucks and others by the style, such as back hoe, front loader and Bobcat.

Secondary contractors will have to agree to match the low-bidder’s rate, Halloran said.

Brick performs much of its own plowing between the Public Works Department and the BTMUA, with which it has a partnership, however the sheer size of the township’s road network requires a larger number of vehicles. The township has locked down contractors well before the winter months since the 2010 blizzard, when private contractors left Brick to move to other towns that were offering more money.

As the Shore area gets its longest-yet taste of spring, Brick officials are thinking snow…

"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paywalled_content":false,"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paid_content":false
[2
24,1885,2853,2854
post-10789","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-government","tag-brick-nj-news","tag-snow-removal","tag-snow-removal-contract","tag-winter-2018
["GET
