The firm would be paid $25,000 for their services, and the contract would last from June 1, 2017 until June 30, 2018.

In this year’s school budget, the board set aside $25,000 for the referendum to be drawn up. Officials said they would likely ask taxpayers for $12 million, which would amount to an approximately equal tax impact since payments on a previous referendum passed in 1996 is expiring. If approved, a $12 million plan would equal about $500,000 in spending per year.

Earlier this spring, Brick officials laid out more than $12.5 million in repairs that are needed district-wide. In a previous report from Shorebeat, it was reported that the $12.5 million in repairs would range from a $1,496,000 roof replacement for the Warren H. Wolf Elementary School (formerly the Primary Learning Center), to $1,297,637 for new baseball and softball fields at Brick Memorial High School, to $1,558,000 to replace a track at Brick Township High School.

Some of the biggest ticket items the district believes it must purchase come in the form of larger, capital projects, such as $1,500,000 for new security vestibules district-wide, another $1,500,000 for a second floor air conditioning system at Lake Riviera Middle School, and $750,000 for a central heating boiler covering multiple buildings. In all, the list of proposed projects adds up to $12,566,946.

The board is scheduled to meet Thursday at 7 p.m. at Brick Memorial High School.

If a $12 Million Brick School Referendum Was on the Ballot, How Would You Vote?

Yes.

No.

View Results

Loading ...

The Brick Township Board of Education is expected to vote Thursday to hire an architectural firm that will be tasked with developing a referendum for voters.
