The mercury will rise into the 90s Monday at Tuesday at the Shore, including towns directly on the beach.<\/p>\n

The fiery forecast has prompted the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection to issue a “code orange” Air Quality Alert for Monday and Tuesday, saying: “A code orange air quality alert means that air pollution concentrations within the region may become unhealthy for sensitive groups.”<\/p>\n

“Sensitive groups include children…people suffering from asthma… heart disease or other lung diseases…and the elderly. The effects of air pollution can be minimized by avoiding strenuous activity or exercise outdoors,” the alert said.<\/p>\n

Monday’s forecast high is 94 degrees on the mainland in Brick and Toms River, and 90 on the barrier island. Tuesday’s high is forecast to be 93 on the mainland and 87 on the island. West winds will blow 6-11 m.p.h. Monday and 8-11 m.p.h. Tuesday.<\/p>\n

The heat wave will be short-lived, however. Wednesday’s high will be just 73 and Thursday may not make it out of the high 60s to near 70.<\/p>\n
