The mercury will rise into the 90s Monday at Tuesday at the Shore, including towns directly on the beach.<\/p>\n

The fiery forecast has prompted the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection to issue a \u201ccode orange\u201d Air Quality Alert for Monday and Tuesday, saying: \u201cA code orange air quality alert means that air pollution\u00a0concentrations within the region may become unhealthy for\u00a0sensitive groups.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cSensitive groups include children\u2026people\u00a0suffering from asthma\u2026 heart disease or other lung\u00a0diseases\u2026and the elderly. The effects of air pollution can\u00a0be minimized by avoiding strenuous activity or exercise outdoors,\u201d the alert said.<\/p>\n

Monday\u2019s forecast high is 94 degrees on the mainland in Brick and Toms River, and 90 on the barrier island. Tuesday\u2019s high is forecast to be 93 on the mainland and 87 on the island. West winds will blow 6-11 m.p.h. Monday and 8-11 m.p.h. Tuesday.<\/p>\n

The heat wave will be short-lived, however. Wednesday\u2019s high will be just 73 and Thursday may not make it out of the high 60s to near 70.<\/p>\n
