A hiker discovered the body of Greg Auriemma, the Brick man who had been missing after going out on a hike of his own in the woods of New Hampshire 10 days ago.<\/p>\n

News12 New Jersey originally reported the story<\/a> shortly before 8 p.m. Thursday. Auriemma\u2019s brother confirmed that the body was found Thursday.<\/p>\n

Auriemma, an attorney an noted environmental advocate, was 63 years old and went hiking in\u00a0White Mountain National Forest, southwest of Mount Washington. He was first thought to be missing 10 days ago, leading to a large-scale search throughout the region.<\/p>\n

Auriemma, who served as chairman of the Ocean County chapter of the Sierra Club, was not carrying a cell phone on him during the hike, officials in New Hampshire said. In recent days, New Hampshire state rescuers scaled back their search.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are deeply saddened by the loss of Greg Auriemma,\u201d Jeff Tittel, director of the New Jersey chapter of the Sierra Club, said in a statement. \u201cHe was a good friend and a champion for the environment. Our hearts and prayers go out to his friends and family and to all of us who love him.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cHe has worked tirelessly for the club on so many issues, especially those around coastal areas,\u201d Tittel said. \u201cGreg helped restart the Ocean County Group close to 20 years ago. As chair of the Ocean County group, Greg has worked tirelessly on ocean issues while building the group into one of the strongest in the state. He tackled many important issues from overdevelopment in Ocean County, to the Climate March in D.C. to protecting Barnegat Bay. Whether it\u2019s trying to preserve land for open space, organizing beach clean-ups, or stopping a massive sprawl development, you could always find Greg at the meetings. He was a big advocate for the oceans and marine issues as well as an avid hiker.\u201d<\/p>\n
