All of the firms were awarded a three year contract, never to exceed $800,000 per year.

The township also awarded a contract to purchase brine solution to Reed Systems, of Ellenville, N.Y., for two years, not to exceed $20,000 per year. Over the last two years, Business Administrator Joanne Bergin said, the township spent $15,600 on solution, which is spread over roads to prevent ice from forming under snow.

Finally, the township signed an agreement with the Brick Township Municipal Utilities Authority to utilize the water-sewer agency’s trucks for snow removal. The agreement allows more publicly owned trucks on the road so outside contractors do not have to be utilized in small storms, and their usage is limited during large ones.

Fall may have mirrored summer thus far, but eventually the leaves will fall and the mercury will drop – and snow will coat Brick’s streets.
