Brick residents may be able to get their first peak \u2013 and voice their first comments \u2013 on the 2018-19 school year budget this week.<\/p>\n

The Board of Education will hold a meeting Thursday at which a presentation will be given on the spending plan. The final numbers for the budget \u2013 and any potential tax impact \u2013 are yet to be determined, especially given ongoing debates at the state level over funding. The level of state funding Brick receives could affect the tax rate by potentially millions of dollars regardless of how the local budget is crafted, but an early presentation is likely to include information on in-house funding for scholastic and athletic programs, as well as whether the board is seeking to raise or reduce overall spending.<\/p>\n

The board, by state law, must adopt a tentative budget by March 18, have a final budget approved by the executive county superintendent of schools by April 24 and a public hearing by May 7. The budget must be finally adopted by the board by May 14.<\/p>\n

For the 2017-18 school year,\u00a0the district\u2019s\u00a0$154,421,700 budget was supported by a tax levy of\u00a0$104,771,941.<\/p>\n

Thursday\u2019s meeting takes place at 7 p.m. at the Technology Training Center at the board\u2019s central office, 101 Hendrickson Avenue. Public comment will be accepted at the meeting on all topics.<\/p>\n
