The advertisement began running on this website today. Signs announcing the closure have been posted in the store’s front windows.

“Millions in inventory,” the ad reads. “Everything must be sold!”

The advertisement lists numerous departments where deep discounts will be offered, as well as 70 percent off jewelry.

There has not been a stated date as to when the store will close its doors for good, but Kmart’s departure will leave yet another massive space vacated in the Laurel Square shopping center, where the Pathmark supermarket used to be housed before it closed in 2015.

Mayor John Ducey has said he frequently requests updates from the shopping center’s owner, Brixmor Property Group, on plans for the once-booming plaza, but he sporadically hears back. Shorebeat has also requested information from Brixmor but has received a similar response.

Sources have said the Acme and Foodtown supermarket chains had been negotiating a contract to move into Laurel Square, but negotiations eventually broke off. There was also talk of a movie theater or another type of entertainment complex being built at the site, but thus far nothing has been submitted to the township’s planning or zoning boards for approval.

A long-rumored closure of the Brick Kmart store has been confirmed.
