Brick officials are on the hunt for some good deals.<\/p>\n

The township council recently authorized Business Administrator Joanne Bergin to sign a contract for the township to acquire electricity and natural gas when prices are at their lowest by way of digital auction.<\/p>\n

Brick officials will utilize an auction set up by Concord Energy, a consulting firm, to purchase the utilities when prices dip to a low level. Such purchases are usually completed through a lengthy bidding process, but the fluid nature of the energy markets would put the township at a disadvantage if it were to have to wait potentially weeks to authorize a deal.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn order to get the optimal pricing, we need to authorize our business administrator to sign the contract for when the price is right,\u201d said Council President Heather deJong.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt will most likely happen on a day between council meetings,\u201d explained Bergin. \u201cAt the following council meeting I will provide a report on the sale and how much money it generated for the township.\u201d<\/p>\n

Township employees will continue to gauge the market for the best deals, deJong said.<\/p>\n
