Meanwhile, the ever-popular chain will become part of a more crowded market in Brick from a Baltimore-based competitor.<\/p>\n<p>Wawa has purchased a plot of land next to its store and will soon embark on a project to modernize the retail location and add a gas station to its south \u2013 just beside the new entrance to the Garden State Parkway.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;They acquired adjoining property and are adding gas pump islands and canopy,&#8221; said Mike Fowler, Brick Township Planner.<\/p>\n<p>Fowler said a hearing date for the improvements to the store has yet to be determined.<\/p>\n<p>Brick&#8217;s four Wawas (plus another location just a few blocks outside town in the Normandy Beach section) will be facing the same competitor that has begun opening locations across South Jersey.<\/p>\n<p>Royal Farms, a Baltimore-based chain that directly competes with Wawa, is planning to open a location at the former Jersey Paddler kayak store on Route 70.
