The Brick Township Board of Education will hold a special meeting Thursday night to vote on numerous items, most significantly a number of employment contracts and the awarding of several bids.<\/p>\n

The board is poised to appoint two politically-powerful firms: NW Financial as its financial advisor, Fairview Insurance Agency as its insurance broker. The board will also vote to retain attorney Nicholas Montenegro and his firm at a rate of $145 per hour for the 2018-19 school year.<\/p>\n

The board will also vote on several personnel contracts and salaries. Richard Caldes, BMHS principal and former interim superintendent, is retiring; Kristen Hanson, formerly of the West Windsor school district, is set to be hired as the district\u2019s new Special Services Director at a salary of $145,225 and Business Administrator James Edwards will see his salary increase to $182,078.<\/p>\n

The meeting will be conducted as the threat of a $22 million state funding cut continues to loom. Under the plan, proposed by Senate President Stephen Sweeney (D-Gloucester), Brick would continually lose funding for seven years until the $22 million reduction is in place. Gov. Phil Murphy proposed a budget that would allow Brick to retain the funding. If the two do not agree to a compromise before July 1, a state government shutdown could be triggered.<\/p>\n

The meeting will be held at 4 p.m. in the Professional Development room at the board office on Hendrickson Avenue.<\/p>\n
