The Board of Education on Thursday night honored Knights of Columbus Council No. 8160, based in Epiphany Church in Brick, for funding and organizing days’ worth of activities for special needs students during the district’s summer program.<\/p>\n

Each year, members of the council give the children a pizza party, a day of bowling, an outdoor field day, plus juice and snacks throughout the summer. The council was honored with a proclamation from the school board for not only their work with the children directly, but fundraising all year to pay the thousands of dollars required to give the kids a summer to remember.<\/p>\n

“This community organization has made a significant impact on the lives of Brick Township\u2019s special needs students since the inception of our extended-year programs,” said Superintendent Gerard Dalton. “We extend our most heartfelt thank-you to Knights of Columbus [Council] 8160.”<\/p>\n

“This goes way back for us,” said John Crosio, who chairs the program for the Knights each summer. “Every year, we\u2019re here to help. We tag, we do our fundraising and have our golf tournament. The gentlemen really work hard.”<\/p>\n

“When I asked the kids, \u2018what\u2019s a Knight,\u2019 they said it\u2019s someone who has rescued people,” said Brett Novick, coordinator of the special needs summer program. “You have done that.”<\/p>\n
