The Board of Education on Thursday night honored Knights of Columbus Council No. 8160, based in Epiphany Church in Brick, for funding and organizing days\u2019 worth of activities for special needs students during the district\u2019s summer program.<\/p>\n

Each year, members of the council give the children a pizza party, a day of bowling, an outdoor field day, plus juice and snacks throughout the summer. The council was honored with a proclamation from the school board for not only their work with the children directly, but fundraising all year to pay the thousands of dollars required to give the kids a summer to remember.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis community organization has made a significant impact on the lives of Brick Township\u2019s special needs students since the inception of our extended-year programs,\u201d said Superintendent Gerard Dalton. \u201cWe extend our most heartfelt thank-you to Knights of Columbus [Council] 8160.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThis goes way back for us,\u201d said John Crosio, who chairs the program for the Knights each summer. \u201cEvery year, we\u2019re here to help. We tag, we do our fundraising and have our golf tournament. The gentlemen really work hard.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen I asked the kids, \u2018what\u2019s a Knight,\u2019 they said it\u2019s someone who has rescued people,\u201d said Brett Novick, coordinator of the special needs summer program. \u201cYou have done that.\u201d<\/p>\n
