Brick school officials are hoping a reworked proposal to subdivide the Route 88 plot where the long-shuttered Laurelton School is located will be approved by the township\u2019s planning board.<\/p>\n

The school was shut down after the 2007-08 school year and has since become an \u201ceyesore\u201d for the district, as one official described it. The district, in 2013, proposed dividing the plot of land into two parcels and selling one, but the plan was rejected by the planning board since the lot areas did not fit within the township\u2019s zoning ordinance.<\/p>\n

Under the new plan, which has yet to be filed with the board, the school district will revise the lot lines.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe way we had drawn the line, it was straight through the driveway. which was non-conforming,\u201d said Business Administrator James Edwards. \u201cNow we\u2019re going to try a plan where at least one of the lots will be conforming.\u201d<\/p>\n

Edwards said the district wants to sell a portion of the property, rather than the entire plot, because the district uses about half of it as a warehouse and would like to keep that facility open.<\/p>\n

The building has generated interested in the past, he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have had, over the years, people approach us,\u201d said Edwards. \u201cWe\u2019ve had churches, Meridian [Health], we had one of those microbreweries, but we can\u2019t do anything.\u201d<\/p>\n
