A pedestrian suffered serious injuries after being hit by a car near the Outback Steakhouse restaurant on Hooper Avenue, police said.<\/p>\n

The car fled after the 7:45 p.m. accident, which occurred about 600 feet south of Brick Boulevard, according to Sgt. David Bedrosian.<\/p>\n

After impact the pedestrian \u2013 described as a 35-year-old Hispanic man from Brick who was not identified by name pending notification of relatives \u2013 was propelled to the area along the west curb line of the road, Bedrosian said.\u00a0 The vehicle, he said, continued south on Hooper Avenue after the impact and left the scene. Witnesses described the hit-and-run vehicle as a dark-colored sedan which may have sustained damage to the right front fender and possibly the hood area.<\/p>\n

The pedestrian was transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune, where he remains hospitalized after suffering head trauma and internal injuries, according to police.<\/p>\n

Brick police officers Charles Kelly and Frank Mauro were the initial arriving units on scene, followed by Detective George Waldhelm of the Brick Township Police Department\u2019s Identification Bureau and other officers who shut down the roadway for about two hours while the accident was being investigated. Brick Police EMS and MONOC paramedics treated the injured man.<\/p>\n

Bedrosian and Officer Jay Lampiasi of the department\u2019s Traffic Safety Unit responded and are conducting the crash investigation.<\/p>\n

Anyone who witnessed the crash or who may have information regarding the vehicle that left the scene is being asked to contact the Traffic Safety Unit at 732-262-1140. The exact cause of the accident remains under investigation, Bedrosian said.<\/p>\n
