The new Midstreams Bridge, which crosses Brick\u2019s Beaver Dam Creek, will be closed to traffic April 22 \u2013 this Monday \u2013 for its final paving and striping, Ocean County officials announced Thursday.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe span will be closed the one day so the contractor can complete the paving and final striping of the bridge,\u201d said Ocean County Engineer John Ernst. \u201cWe chose April 22 because area schools are closed and the traffic flow will be less.\u201d<\/p>\n

Detours will be posted in the area, officials said.<\/p>\n

Ernst said the contractor, Midlantic Construction, Barnegat Township, will also complete any additional site work on April 22.<\/p>\n

The new Midstreams Bridge was reopened to traffic on Feb. 19<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The new Midstreams Bridge is a 111 foot-long single span structure consisting of adjacent precast-prestressed concrete box beams, supported on full height reinforced concrete abutments, founded on cast-in-place steel pipe piles and concrete footings.<\/p>\n

The width of the new structure is 49 feet and includes a 40 feet curb-to-curb cart way along with a 6-foot wide sidewalk on the west side.<\/p>\n

The Midstreams Bridge was originally built in 1962. The old bridge\u2019s timber piles and timber bulkhead substructure showed signs of advanced deterioration<\/a> while the existing concrete pile caps exhibited delamination and moderate section loss. Additionally, the bridge deck width was substandard given the increased traffic volumes.<\/p>\n

The cost of the new bridge was $4,661,443.<\/p>\n
