The Brick Township council will hold a public hearing before voting to adopt the 2019 municipal budget, however the spending plan being considered at a council meeting Tuesday night differs in some respects from the one that was introduced last month<\/a> \u2013 in a way that will likely be welcomed by Brick residents.<\/p>\n

A companion resolution \u2013 one of four needed to pass the budget \u2013 details some modifications to the plan presented by Mayor John Ducey in March. Under Brick\u2019s system of government, the mayor proposes the municipal budget but it can be modified by the council before adoption. In this case, Brick has learned it will receive additional revenue from the state.<\/p>\n

Under the modification resolution, the total appropriations will rise from the originally proposed $103,832,368 to $104,245,623. Accounting for the increase is an expected increase in EMS service fees as well as $367,755 grant from the state for road construction in the Laurelhust development, $40,000 from Ocean County to maintain a pumpout boat serving Barnegat Bay and $5,500 from the state for distracted driving enforcement.<\/p>\n

The budget will be supported by a property tax levy of $73,782,168. According to Ducey, this will equate to an increase of about $26.52 annually for the owner of a home valued at $294,000, the township average.<\/p>\n
