Brick officials have awarded a contract to a firm that will replace a faltering outfall pipe in the township’s Normandy Beach section.<\/p>\n

The pipe, located near the playground adjacent to the Normandy Beach Improvement Association bay house, is failing. The replacement will be a 40 linear foot ductile pipe that will run into the bay from the Broad Avenue right-of-way, said Councilman Art Halloran.<\/p>\n

The pipe replacement will also help alleviate flooding in the neighborhood, according to officials. The contract, awarded last week, was characterized by wildly varied bid prices from potential contractors.<\/p>\n

Brick selected Albert Marine Construction of Waretown \u2013 a firm that frequently works on township and county projects \u2013 to perform the work for $15,369.<\/p>\n

The highest bid for the project was near eight times higher at $119,200.<\/p>\n
