The aim of the program is to send more customers to businesses within the township by offering them an incentive to do so. The program is optional, but open to all businesses in town.<\/p>\n<p>Over the past year, 18,855 transactions totaling $1,162,514 were passed through the Buy in Brick system, which utilizes a membership card.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have over 6,000 families enrolled,\u201d said Councilwoman Heather deJong, including both homeowners and renters.<\/p>\n<p>The transactions generated $67,603 that was credited to residents\u2019 tax bills.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe program is doing very, very well,\u201d said deJong. \u201cIt\u2019s usually mom-and-pop stores that come into the program; the big box stores often have trouble putting it into their point-of-sale infrastructure.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>With some recent additions, 71 businesses participate in the program.
