Ocean County is planning a redesign of what some motorists have found to be a confusing layout of a grouping of two intersections along Burnt Tavern Road in Brick.<\/p>\n

The county is going out to bid on a project that will improve the area between Van Zile Road and the entrance to the Greenbriar II community. Presently, vehicles turning left onto Burnt Tavern from the senior community are funneled into an acceleration lane that turns into the left lane of traffic. On occasion, motorists have not realized that traffic may still be proceeding along the roadway despite the green light at the intersection beforehand.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re going to eliminate the acceleration lane because there have been a lot of complaints about being able to merge from there to get over to Van Zile,\u201d said County Engineer John Ernst.<\/p>\n

There will be upgrades to both the intersection at the Greenbriar entrance as well as at Van Zile itself. The county is also repaving Burnt Tavern Road this year and will pair the intersection redesign with that project.<\/p>\n

The project will also improve safety by stopping oncoming traffic from approaching vehicles turning left onto the roadway.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re going to create a stop condition for the eastbound traffic so people coming out of Greenbriar II will have the left turn and be able to move into the lane and move across,\u201d Ernst said.<\/p>\n

An exact start date for the work has not yet been chosen.<\/p>\n
