Bayside Park will be completely rebuilt with new amenities and infrastructure.<\/p>\n

The Brick Township council this week voted in favor of seeking bids for part of the work that will go into the park, located across Route 35 from Brick Beach III in the barrier island portion. The governing body is seeking bids, specifically, for boardwalk reconstruction. The existing boardwalk, a popular spot for crabbing and fishing, was heavily damaged in Superstorm Sandy and part of it remains off limits to visitors.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re planning a big grand opening Memorial Day,\u201d said Councilman Art Halloran, signaling the priority of the project, which goes far beyond bulkheading and infrastructure.<\/p>\n

The new park will feature an enlarged playground with a new safety surface, a new picnic area, new gazebo and cantilever shade structures for those who want to lounge on a sunny day. There will also be new benches and bait tables with decking.<\/p>\n

The park will also offer a cornhole playing area plus a labyrinth concrete patio for yoga, Halloran said.<\/p>\n

The work will start with the new boardwalk.<\/p>\n

\u201cMost of that work will be done outside of the [park] contract so we have a dedicated bulkhead contractor instead of a general contractor,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

The final product is still under design, officials said.<\/p>\n
