Have you noticed a new look on the fire hydrants in your neighborhood?<\/p>\n

The Brick Township Municipal Utilities Authority has begun an audacious plan to make all of the township\u2019s fire hydrants more visible to firefighters \u2013 especially at night. Several neighborhoods in the Herbertsville section were among the first to have their hydrants retrofitted with a green reflective band near the top valve, and a large red-and-white reflective probe that protrudes into the air.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn coordination with the Brick Board of Fire Commissioners, Brick Utilities is installing hydrant markers throughout the township,\u201d said Chris Theodos, executive director of the BTMUA.<\/p>\n

The aim of the markings is to make the hydrants more visible to firefighters responding to a blaze. The green ring will stand out in all weather conditions, while the probe, at several feet long, will be higher than the vast majority of snowfalls Brick receives, meaning firefighters can see the hydrants even when there is feet of snow on the ground, covering the hydrant itself.<\/p>\n

Theodos said the project is township-wide and will continue throughout 2020 until all hydrants are marked.<\/p>\n
