A juvenile has been charged with two counts of attempted murder in connection with a double stabbing on beach in Point Pleasant Beach on Monday, authorities announced Tuesday.<\/p>\n

The person arrested is a juvenile from Newark. The suspect\u2019s gender and age were not provided by officials, though witnesses said they saw a male under arrest at the beach after the incident. Initially, police took two people into custody, but ultimately determined the juvenile suspect should be charged.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur collaborative investigation revealed that this juvenile was responsible for both stabbings,\u201d said Prosecutor Bradley Billhimer. \u201cWe did have two individuals in custody last night, but only one of them is responsible for both stabbings.\u201d<\/p>\n

Both victims were in serious but stable condition Tuesday morning, Billhimer added.<\/p>\n

The incident occurred on a beach owned by Jenkinson\u2019s, a privately-owned beach property that is open to the public for a fee. The company\u2019s staff was complemented by both visitors and officials for their response.<\/p>\n

\u201cEveryone involved from the moment this heinous crime occurred really went above and beyond,\u201d said Billhimer. \u201cThe Jenkinson\u2019s Lifeguards, Jenkinson\u2019s management and security staff and the Point Pleasant Beach Police Department, collectively, are the reason these two young men are still alive and we have the right person in custody.\u201d<\/p>\n

The juvenile is simultaneously facing charges of possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and unlawful possession of a weapon. The suspect is being detained in the Ocean County Juvenile Detention Center.<\/p>\n
