A \u201ccommissary kitchen\u201d will be part of a new, mixed-use facility that has been approved by the township\u2019s planning board recently.<\/p>\n

The applicant, Fine Art Holdings, LLC, received permission to construct a two-story building at 346 Drum Point Road with the first floor being used as a commissary kitchen and two residential apartments.<\/span><\/p>\n

A \u201ccommissary kitchen\u201d is the name given to facilities where food is prepared in a commercial kitchen setting, but then sent off-premises to caterers and other food businesses. That portion of the property will span much of the 9,682-square foot site, which will be built on a 22,404-square foot lot, which is currently an undeveloped, wooded property. John Jackson, the attorney representing Fine Arts, said the commissary kitchen will employ five to 10 workers preparing food for distribution. The two apartments will total 4,664 square feet.<\/p>\n

The property owner was issued several variances, most of them minor, including 9-foot-wide parking spaces instead of the required 10-feet width. The building was also granted permission to build 20-feet from an adjacent residential area instead of the required 25-feet. The board allowed the exception after Jackson explained that landscaping will represent a permanent buffer, as well as a planned six-foot fence.<\/p>\n

The building will include 16 parking spaces built facing Drum Point, and a picket fence will be installed around the property and toward Emberly Road.<\/p>\n
