A group of 12-year-olds have brought a state championship to Brick Township \u2013 exactly 30 years after another title-winning season for the Brick Little League organization.<\/p>\n

In a special twist, Little Leaguer Taylor Cavanaugh now gets to share a special bond with father, George, who was a member of that 1990 championship team.<\/p>\n

\u201cThese boys are super special to watch,\u201d said Coach Rich Hudak. \u201cThey are an amazing group and are all extremely talented. Our area has not had a team of this talent in a long time \u2013 this was to be their year in the sun and Covid-19 snuffed most of that out.\u201d<\/p>\n

Indeed, had 2020 been a regular year for Little League, the Brick team would have moved on to the mid-Atlantic championship series and, if successful there, play against other regional champs for the opportunity to participate in the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pa. Unfortunately, the regional championship series and the World Series playoffs were both canceled this year due to the pandemic, but the New Jersey organization played on, and Brick brought home the title.<\/p>\n

The Brick squad was matched up against a powerful rival \u2013 Holbrook Little League in Jackson \u2013 which competed for the state title last year. They had already won district and sectional matchups before heading to the state level.<\/p>\n

The team posed with Mayor John Ducey for photos and has been receiving kudos around town since bringing home the championship banner.<\/p>\n
