(Photo: Baine Contracting)<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Brick residents looking to improve the environment and give their town a good spring cleaning will have the opportunity to participate in a number of volunteer cleanup projects later this month.<\/p>\n<p>The township is sponsoring the \u201cPick Up Brick\u201d program, which will consist of a series of cleanups and beach sweeps aimed at both protecting the shore environment and improving the look of the town. The effort will coincide with Clean Ocean Action\u2019s annual Spring Beach Sweep on April 17.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEarth Day on April 22, and the surrounding week, presents a great opportunity to channel people\u2019s passion for the environment,\u201d said Mayor John Ducey. \u201cThis year we are excited to once again join Clean Ocean Action at their Spring Beach Sweeps while also announcing a yearlong cleanup campaign at township open space sites.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The April 17th Beach Sweeps begin at 9am and have been expanded this year to include Brick Beach I, Brick Beach III and Windward Beach Park. \u201cBeach Captains\u201d will be on hand to provide supplies and guidance to volunteers throughout the morning. Volunteers can get more information and must register for the beach sweeps at <a href=\"http:\/\/cleanoceanaction.org\/index.php?id=334\">cleanoceanaction.org<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese cleanups provide an opportunity for residents of all ages to make a positive contribution to the quality of life in Brick,\u201d said Keith Rella, the \u2018Pick up Brick\u2019 program coordinator. \u201cIt also provides clear evidence that changing our behaviors, like our dependence on single use plastic products, can have a real impact on the volume of waste and debris in our environment.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Additional \u201cPick up Brick\u201d campaign cleanups will be announced on Earth Day.
