Paving work on Mantoloking Road will pause for the Memorial Day holiday weekend, but restart on Tuesday, Brick officials said.<\/p>\n

Portions of the road are being repaved following a controversial project undertaken by New Jersey Natural Gas tore up the roadway just months after Ocean County paid to pave it. County officials previously told Shorebeat that they were aware of the impending NJNG project when they awarded the contract for Mantoloking Road\u2019s repaving in 2018. County Engineer John Ernst said the road was in such poor condition that the decision was made to go forward with a full repaving since it would not have been safe to wait another two to three years to complete the work.<\/p>\n

Crews have been working overnight to repair the roadway recently, but the project will come to a halt after Thursday night\u2019s work is complete. That will also mark the end of what NJNG has termed \u201cphase \u2018D'\u201d of the project.<\/p>\n

\u201cOn Tuesday they will be back to pave their new phase,\u201d Mayor John Ducey said Thursday.<\/p>\n

Ocean County, which has jurisdiction over Mantoloking Road, entered into a 425 day contract with New Jersey Natural Gas that expires this fall, representing the deadline for the road to be fully repaired.<\/p>\n
