(Shorebeat\/Campaign Photos)<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Mayor John Ducey was resoundingly re-elected as Brick Township\u2019s mayor Tuesday, sailing to a third term despite headwinds that gave his GOP opponents momentum.<\/p>\n<p>Unofficial totals from the Ocean County Clerk\u2019s office show Ducey, a Democrat, having won 63 percent of residents\u2019 votes, compared with 36 percent for his Republican opponent Theresa Gallagher. But for the first time in more than a decade, it appeared that a Republican will join the township council. A total of 27,240 votes were cast for mayor.<\/p>\n<p>Ducey said he appreciated the \u201cacknowledgement of hard work\u201d that he and his team had put in both in governing as well as during the campaign.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI try to make Brick better every day, and I\u2019m so happy that people think Brick is going in the right direction,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Ducey said the goals for his third term would be to continue initiatives like his debt reduction plan and tax stabilization, but also to focus on maintaining Brick\u2019s community spirit.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re going to focus on continuing to keep Brick a great place to live, keeping taxes low and keeping the small town feel,\u201d Ducey said. \u201cWe have a very large town, but we want to keep that small town feel by continuing to do community events, get people together, keep improving our parks and hosting events like Summerfest and the farmers market.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Three seats on the township council were up for grabs Tuesday night. The top vote-getter among council candidates was Republican Perry Albanese, who received 13,522 votes. Incumbent Democrat Marianna Pontoriero received the second-highest number of votes, with 12,908. Fellow incumbent Democrat Heather deJong garnered the third-highest vote total, receiving 12,902.<\/p>\n<p>If the current results hold, Democrats will control the mayor\u2019s office and six out of seven seats on the township council.<\/p>\n<p>Democrat Derrick Ambrosino carried 12,629 votes and Republicans Ernest C. Arians and Mary Buckley received<\/p>\n<p>Candidate Derrick T.
