The owner of Beacon 70 will come before the Brick Township planning board next week to pitch an expansion of his popular bar and restaurant.<\/p>\n

The proposal calls for additional outdoor seating at the restaurant, which overlooks a marina on the narrows of the Metedeconk River. The restaurant opened to great fanfare<\/a> in 2017 by its owner, local physician Karl Blum, and has solidified itself as an ever-popular Brick hot spot. The restaurant added outdoor seating during the height of the coronavirus pandemic, and already features an outdoor deck with a full bar and tables.<\/p>\n

The latest proposal calls for the construction of a 1,400 square foot lounge underneath the existing 1,400 square foot elevated deck, which overlooks the easternmost portion of the marina behind the restaurant. The restaurant is also requesting permission to add 10 more parking spaces, bringing the total number of spaces to 197 should the proposal be approved.<\/p>\n

Variance relief is required for parking, as the township\u2019s zoning ordinance would normally call for 330 spaces for a business of its size, though this is largely an reaffirmation of the restaurant\u2019s original site plan. No other variances are requested, though occasionally an extra design waiver is found to be required by township professionals.<\/p>\n

The planning board will hear the proposal at its March 9 meeting, which begins at 7 p.m. at the township municipal complex on Chambers Bridge Road.<\/p>\n
