Brick school officials will make another attempt to find a buyer for the former Laurelton Elementary School property on Route 88 later this month, Shorebeat has learned.<\/p>\n

The Board of Education voted in February<\/a> to contract with an auctioneer to sell the 2-acre site, which has been vacant since 2003. The school district is keeping a loading dock and storage facility behind the school. While the district has previously heard from parties interested in purchasing the building, no deal has ever materialized. School officials believe they may have a good chance of attracting a buyer in today\u2019s competitive real estate market.<\/p>\n

Auctioneer Max Spann will host the auction online between 9 a.m. April 26 and 11 a.m. April 27. Bidders are required to place a $20,000 deposit in escrow before being able to make offers, which will be returned to non-winning bidders. \u201cThe B-3 Highway Development Zone designation allows for long and short-term care medical facilities, offices, retail, restaurant, microbrewery, distribution and more [uses],\u201d the document said. \u201cMunicipal water, sewer, telephone, electric and natural gas are all available to the site.\u201d<\/p>\n

Laurelton School, the auctioneer\u2019s property information package state, measures 9,132 square feet in area, on a plot that is approximately 2-acres. While the building is currently owned by the school district and is tax-exempt, its assessed value is $1,516,100, which translates to an annual property tax bill of $35,264.<\/p>\n
