Last year, the township spent a total of $260,000 on animal control, said Business Administrator Joanne Bergin.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re going to go out to bid for the animal control officer piece and do some cost comparisons and see if we can provide the services we are required to provide and do so in a more efficient way,\u201d said Bergin.<\/p>\n<p>Barbara Palmer, who is affiliated with the animal shelter, is currently the township\u2019s animal control officer, according to the Ocean County Health Department. In some municipalities, the animal control officer is not an employee of the designated shelter. According to a county list of shelters, most municipalities use either the county\u2019s northern or southern shelters, located in Jackson and Manahawkin, or the Popcorn Park Zoo in Forked River.
