But nature still put on a show, with some interesting birds spotted around the bay. Gulls, osprey, oystercatchers and even a Blue Heron made an appearance, and we were lucky enough to be able to catch them in action at sunset, hunting for one last fish before calling it a night.

While we’re talking about the outdoors, keep in mind that the National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for 11 a.m. Thursday through 8 p.m. Friday. According to the advisory statement, heat index values up to 102 degrees are expected.

“The highest temperatures and heat indices are expected to occur today,” the statement said. “Low temperatures in the mid 70s tonight will not provide much relief from the heat. Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances.”

The high will be 94 degrees Thursday and 92 degrees Friday, with slightly lower temperatures on the barrier island. There will be a small chance of an isolated thunderstorm Thursday night before 10 p.m. and a 40 percent chance of showers or thunderstorms Friday night before 2 a.m.

It was a hazy sunset Wednesday night, with the sun’s rays slinking behind some far-off wispy clouds.
