Brick Township, with the assistance of a state grant, is planning to install electric vehicle (EV) charging stations at two township park facilities.<\/p>\n

As part of a capital project that received the endorsement of the township\u2019s planning board Wednesday night, EV charging stations will be added to Windward Beach Park, off Princeton Avenue, and the Drum Point Sports Complex, off Brick Boulevard and Drum Point Road.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey will be in highly-visible areas where the public frequents,\u201d said Business Administrator Joanne Bergin.<\/p>\n

The chargers will cost $16,000 to $18,000 per location, which includes two stations each, which will be funded through the state grant.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re not looking at a large expenditure,\u201d said Bergin. \u201cWe have in-house electricians who can set up the stations and employees who will run a conduit.\u201d<\/p>\n

The two chargers will be available for public use for a standard fee. The township itself will use the chargers at night to charge their own Chevrolet Bolt EVs, which have been ordered for use by park security officers. The township purchased the two vehicles for $51,176 through a state contract earlier this year.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey\u2019re out quite a bit in high-traffic areas, and it\u2019s very visible, so people will see these electric transportation methods,\u201d said Bergin, explaining that the state\u2019s EV charging station grants center on promoting the use of electric vehicles.<\/p>\n

The township expects the charging stations to be installed in 2023.<\/p>\n
