After an ill-fated attempt<\/a> by Corrado\u2019s Market, a North Jersey-based specialty supermarket, to populate the former Pathmark store in the Laurel Square shopping center, the plaza\u2019s owner is still intending to anchor a grocery store at the site.<\/p>\n

Brick Mayor John Ducey said this week that Brixmor Property Group, the owner of the shopping center located between routes 70 and 88 in the northern portion of town, provided an update on the site during a recent town hall meeting. The space where Pathmark was located will be taken up by two tenants \u2013 an Ashley Furniture store as well as an unnamed grocery store.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey\u2019re leasing agent is negotiating with a grocery store, but they have not disclosed what it is,\u201d said Ducey. \u201cI assume they want to get whoever it is signed up, and they\u2019ll make a big announcement.\u201d<\/p>\n

Rumors have been floated that a Monmouth County-based Italian specialty supermarket, Livoti\u2019s Old World Market<\/a>, was considering the site for a new location, however the rumors have not been confirmed. Brixmor did not reply to a request for comment.<\/p>\n

Last month, Brixmor purchased a liquor license that had previously been reserved by Corrado\u2019s for $575,000 \u2013 the same price as Corrado\u2019s would have paid. Presumably, the license \u2013 which allows for retail sales of packaged goods \u2013 will be held for a future tenant.<\/p>\n

Ducey also said there was no word on a future tenant for the former Fin\u2019s tropical-themed restaurant in the Laurel Square plaza.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe tried to get Cracker Barrel to take a look, but there wasn\u2019t enough parking for them since Provident Bank was open back then,\u201d he said. \u201cSince the bank moved, they haven\u2019t come back to take a look at it.\u201d<\/p>\n
