Brick Township\u2019s newest Wawa store will open this Thursday, this company announced, alongside an offer of several days of free coffee.<\/p>\n

The \u201csuper Wawa\u201d will replace one of the chain\u2019s original standalone stores at 10 Lanes Mill Road, which was demolished following work to create a new Garden State Parkway interchange. Wawa purchased parcels of land next to the old store during the construction project to make room for the addition of a full gas station on the premises.<\/p>\n

The doors will open at 8 a.m. Thursday, the company said in a statement. The first 100 customers through the door on April 6 will receive a limited-edition \u201cWawa Coffee, Hoagies & Kindness\u201d t-shirt, while supplies last. All customers can enjoy free coffee from April 6 to April 9.<\/p>\n

A ribbon-cutting ceremony will commence at 8:30 a.m. with local officials and company mascot \u201cWally Goose.\u201d<\/p>\n

Anthony Rao will serve as general manager of the new Brick Wawa store, leading a team of approximately 60 associates, all of whom filled new positions with the expanded store, the company said.<\/p>\n

The new Lanes Mill Road store was approved by the township\u2019s planning board<\/a> in 2019. The 4,736 square foot retail store and six fuel dispensers with 12 pumps replaced the existing Wawa store \u2013 one of the first locations of the chain in the Ocean County area \u2013 and take up a plot of land that also once housed the popular Rice King Chinese restaurant and other businesses. Rice King and its neighbors left due to the construction of the full Garden State Parkway interchange 91, leading Wawa to purchase the remaining land and combine it with the lot housing the existing store in order to fit the expanded retail space and gas pumps.<\/p>\n

The board approved the Wawa in a unanimous vote with no changes or added conditions to the company\u2019s application.<\/p>\n

Wawa plans to open up to 76 new stores throughout the Mid-Atlantic region and Florida in 2023. The grand opening of the Brick location is the 9th store to open among the chain\u2019s six-state operating area of Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, Florida and Washington, D.C. The chain also announced its future expansion to Florida Panhandle, Alabama, North Carolina, Georgia, Tennessee, Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana, with more details on those new locations to be shared soon.<\/p>\n
