Brick police charged a township man with a number of criminal offenses after witnessing him involved in a road rage incident, then fleeing the scene after an officer in an unmarked car identified himself and told him to pull over.<\/p>\n

The incident played out May 12, when detectives from the department\u2019s Street Crimes Unit were traveling in an unmarked vehicle in the area of Route 88 and Post Road. While driving, the detectives observed a road rage incident \u2013 a vehicle stopped in the roadway, obstructing traffic, and creating a danger to other motorists, while the driver \u201cengaged in a verbal argument with another motorist,\u201d Ptl. Victoria Finelli said.<\/p>\n

During the incident the suspect, identified as Jonathan Weydig, 24, of Point Pleasant Borough, began to exit his vehicle in the roadway as detectives attempted to pull him over.<\/p>\n

\u201cWeydig acknowledged their presence as police officers as they advised him to pull over into a safe location,\u201d Finelli said.<\/p>\n

But Weydig, police allege, entered his vehicle and fled the scene.<\/p>\n

\u201cOfficers observed multiple motor vehicle violations as he attempted to elude officers,\u201d the statement said.<\/p>\n

Several hours later, officers were able to locate Weydig \u201cthrough investigative measures.\u201d He was arrested with the assistance of the Point Pleasant Borough Police Department. Weydig, police discovered, had six outstanding warrants and was charged with eluding officers, obstruction and hindering apprehension. Weydig was also issued 12 motor vehicle summonses.<\/p>\n

Weydig was transported to Ocean County Jail. He was no longer listed as an inmate there Wednesday. His photograph was not available.<\/p>\n
