(Photo: Shorebeat)<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Mayor Lisa Crate, along with other township officials and the engineers and contractors behind the project, grabbed their ceremonial shovels to kick things off Thursday afternoon, though some of the work had already started to clear away old brush and prepare the shoreline for a new bulkhead and rip-rap breakwater.<\/p>\n<p>Last month, the township council <a href=\"https:\/\/www.shorebeat.com\/brick\/2023\/04\/brick-awards-contract-to-build-long-awaited-waterfront-park\/\">awarded<\/a> a $465,412 contract to Robbie Lane Enterprises, of Towaco, N.J., to undertake the rebuild. The contract award came years \u2013 nearly a decade \u2013 since the idea to rebuild the park was first conceived.<\/p>\n<p>Park construction had been funded and designed, but obtaining state permits delayed progress, mostly having to do with a small living shoreline and breakwater made from rip-rap to protect the park from erosion. At one point, the state even <a href=\"https:\/\/www.shorebeat.com\/brick\/2021\/11\/brick-waiting-on-state-permits-archeological-investigation-to-renovate-cedar-bridge-manor\/\">ordered the township<\/a> to investigate whether the land was a tribal burial site; no such evidence was found. The final permits were <a href=\"https:\/\/www.shorebeat.com\/brick\/2023\/02\/after-years-long-permitting-process-brick-park-about-to-receive-major-upgrade\/\">issued in February<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>As Cedar Bridge Manor is considered a small \u201cneighborhood\u201d park rather than a \u201cdestination\u201d park, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.shorebeat.com\/brick\/2022\/09\/bricks-cedar-bridge-manor-park-plan-to-incorporate-neighbors-requests\/\">input from residents<\/a> on surrounding streets were consulted as to which features and amenities they were looking for. More security lighting was added, and the playground replaced bocce courts or a horseshoe pit, which were not in-demand items.
