The Brick Farmers\u2019 Market, held every Saturday at Windward Beach Park, will participate in the state Department of Health\u2019s Senior Farmers\u2019 Market Nutrition Program, which provides senior citizens who have limited incomes with healthy food.<\/p>\n

The program will begin July 1 in Brick, Mayor Lisa Crate said at Tuesday night\u2019s township council meeting.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt not only encourages healthy eating, but supports our local farmers,\u201d she said. \u201cWe have someone at our Farmers Market \u2013 \u2018Farmer Al\u2019 \u2013 and he accepts the senior vouchers.\u201d<\/p>\n

Under the program, seniors age 60 and over can obtain vouchers with a QR code that can be scanned at the market and exchanged for fresh fruits and vegetables. The income requirements are listed on the state\u2019s website<\/a>. The vouchers with the codes can be obtained at the township\u2019s senior services office at Civic Plaza, 270 Chambers Bridge Road, Brick.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou have to go to the Senior Services office and they\u2019ll give a booklet,\u201d Crate explained. \u201cAll you have to do is show your code to the farmer, and he\u2019ll have the technology to scan it, and that will be it.\u201d<\/p>\n
