A portion of Route 70 in Brick will gain a travel lane and be repaved as part of a construction project that began Monday and ramped up overnight Tuesday into Wednesday.<\/p>\n

Milling work started overnight between Monday and Tuesday in the eastbound lanes of the state highway between Chambers Bridge Road and the area near Forge Pond. Work on the project will be completed almost totally during the overnight hours to minimize traffic issues, said Joanne Bergin, the township\u2019s business administrator.<\/p>\n

In addition to the resurfacing of the highway, the shoulder that existed in the area will be converted to a third travel lane in order to improve traffic flow in the area.<\/p>\n

The project, Bergin said, is expected to take about two weeks to complete.<\/p>\n

In April, the township council approved a $447,316 contract with Black Rock Enterprises, of Old Bridge, to perform the work. The state will contribute $272,297 toward the project under a grant partnership program. The project was funded through the township\u2019s 2012 capital budget.<\/p>\n
