The Brick Township council will introduce an ordinance Tuesday night intending to lower the speed limit on a wide portion of Herbertsville Road, the main thoroughfare through the northern section of town that bears its name.<\/p>\n

Currently, Herbertsville Road \u2013 a county road that has jurisdictions in both Ocean and Monmouth counties \u2013 has three speed limit sections. In most of Wall and Howell townships, the speed limit is 45 m.p.h., which carries much of the way\u00a0 Brick Township until Maple Avenue, where it is reduced to 40 m.p.h. When vehicles cross Route 70 into a small portion of Brick and ultimately Point Pleasant Borough, the speed limit is further reduced to 35 m.p.h.<\/p>\n

The council\u2019s ordinance to be considered Tuesday night would lower the speed limit from 45 m.p.h. to 40 m.p.h. between Maple Avenue and Lanes Mill Road. The intersection with Lanes Mill Road also serves as the intersection with Thiele Road, best known for being the location of Epiphany Church\u2019s parish hall. Maple Avenue is the location of the Krauszer\u2019s convenience store.<\/p>\n

The new speed limits would take effect after a public hearing and second vote on the ordinance, scheduled for Oct. 24. At that point, Ocean County would be directed to change the speed limit signs, and police could begin enforcing the new speed limit.<\/p>\n

Both Tuesday;s meeting and the Oct. 24 meeting are slated to begin at 7 p.m. at the township municipal complex.<\/p>\n
