The National Weather Service has issued its first freeze warning and frost advisory for the Shore area as cold temperatures move into the region.<\/p>\n

Wednesday\u2019s high temperature was forecast to reach just 49 degrees with rain in the morning to midday period. At night, the temperature is expected to drop to 29 degrees before rising to a high of 50 degrees during the day Thursday. For mainland communities, a freeze advisory has been issued for the period between midnight Wednesday to 10 a.m. Thursday. A frost advisory was posted for the barrier island for the same time period.<\/p>\n

According to a statement from the National Weather Service, the frost advisory calls for \u201cfrost formation\u201d in the immediate coastal area, which could kill sensitive outdoor vegetation if left uncovered. On the island, temperatures may hover around 35 degrees due to the warmth of the Atlantic Ocean.<\/p>\n

On the mainland, the freeze warning calls for a chance of temperatures dropping as low as 26 degrees at night.<\/p>\n

\u201cFrost and freeze conditions will kill crops and other sensitive vegetation,\u201d the warning said. \u201cTake steps now to protect tender plants from the cold.\u201d<\/p>\n

It will also be breezy Wednesday into Thursday. Small Craft Advisories are in effect for all waters, and seas are forecast to build to 3-5 feet Wednesday. North-northwest winds of 10-15 m.p.h. can be expected on land, and on the water, 15 to 20 knot winds with 25 to 30 knot gusts are possible.<\/p>\n

\u201cA few gale force gusts are possible, but should not be frequent enough nor widespread enough to warrant a Gale Warning,\u201d the NWS marine forecast said.<\/p>\n

Seas and winds are both forecast to calm on Thursday, and the small craft advisory is expected to be lifted.<\/p>\n
