The project will take through June 2024 to complete.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDuring this time, the Brick Township Municipal Utilities Authority will temporarily modify the disinfection process of water treatment from chloramine residuals to free chlorine,\u201d the announcement said. \u201cFree chlorine is commonly used in public water supplies as a disinfectant.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usbr.gov\/research\/projects\/download_product.cfm?id=826\">U.S. Bureau of Reclamation<\/a>: \u201cChlorines have a higher oxidizing potential than chloramines, but residual chloramines are more persistent and may provide better disinfection from source to tap.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As a result of the temporary change in disinfection type, customers may experience a more noticeable chlorine taste and odor in their tap.
