(Photo: Shorebeat)<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Brick Township council members have introduced and ordinance expanding the number of private properties \u2013 mainly shopping centers and private residential communities \u2013 where police will have jurisdiction to enforce the state\u2019s traffic code.<\/p>\n<p>From time to time, the township receives requests from private property owners asking for police to be able to enforce traffic laws in their lots or isolated streets. While police can always be called to a property, their power to actually enforce the state traffic code \u2013 found in Title 39 of the state statutes \u2013 themselves is dependent on the permission of the owner. In all of the cases in the ordinance, the owner requested police be able to enforce motor vehicle laws laws there.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The new locations include:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Brick Garden Apartments (2747 Hooper Avenue)<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Car Storage Lot (949 Burnt Tavern Road)<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>New Beginnings Church (236-242 Brick Boulevard)<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Starbucks (91 Brick Boulevard)<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Contractor\u2019s Office (670 Mantoloking Road)<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Wawa\/Future Popeyes (1900 Route 88)<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Cummins Street (Former Camp Osborn, Entire Roadway Length)<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Shell Station (1 Lanes Mill Road)<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Harbour Yacht Club & Marina\/Boat Sales (501 Route 35 South)<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Office Complex (74-80 Brick Boulevard)<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Office Complex (635 Duquesne Boulevard)<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Aldi Shopping Center (778 Route 70)<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>According to township officials, police reviewed each application before the ordinance was introduced and ensured that traffic signs and markings complied with local, state and federal laws and standards.<\/p>\n<p>The ordinance is subject to a public comment period and second vote, currently set for the March 12 meeting.<\/p>\n<div class=\"fcbkbttn_buttons_block\" id=\"fcbkbttn_left\"><div class=\"fb-share-button fcbkbttn_large_button \" data-href=\"https:\/\/shorebeat.com\/brick\/2024\/03\/more-private-lots-properties-will-be-under-brick-pd-traffic-enforcement-jurisdiction\/\" data-type=\"button_count\" data-size=\"large\"><\/div><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Brick Township council members have introduced and ordinance expanding the number of private properties \u2013 mainly shopping centers and private residential communities \u2013 where police will have jurisdiction to enforce the state\u2019s traffic code.
