The large concession stand and restroom facility at Brick Beach III is in need of repairs and work is expected to begin soon, said township Business Administrator Joanne Bergin, though inconveniences to beachgoers will be minor \u2013 if not non-existent.<\/p>\n

The building, fortunately, does not need to be demolished or rebuilt.<\/p>\n

“It can be renovated with certain supports,” said Bergin. “Refurbishment is definitely needed, as anything out in the sun and salt all of the time is going to get pretty beat up.”<\/p>\n

Earlier this spring, township officials made the decision to seek out a food truck vendor that could fill in for the concession stand for the season \u2013 a decision that was not always in the cards, but turned out to be a major factor for the beach this summer. The township recently awarded a contract to Little Caesars’ Pizza of Toms River to run the food stand.<\/p>\n

“We did go with the food truck option for this summer, which I\u2019m very relieved about,” Bergin said. “In the beginning, we had a firm go out and give us some options, and we were told there was a chance it could be ready by Memorial Day. Well, it hasn\u2019t even started yet.”<\/p>\n

That will change over the next several weeks, but the work should not be a disturbance to visitors.<\/p>\n

“The bathrooms will be open throughout, so it really should only be a minor inconvenience to beachgoers,” said Bergin. “Some people may not even notice \u2013 there isn\u2019t going to be any heavy equipment, just guys working on a building.”<\/p>\n

The township decided to make the move to get the work done during the summer season since it is likely the fastest option.<\/p>\n

“We\u2019re not going to push it off to the end of summer for that reason, when the weather comes more into play,” she said. “We\u2019ll be able to work on it and get it completed.”<\/p>\n

As for the food options: “We\u2019re hoping that the vendor can bring a variety of options, not just pizza, but at least people can get something cold to drink and a bite to eat if they\u2019d like.”<\/p>\n

Brick Beach III is one of three public ocean beaches run by Brick Township, located adjacent to the Normandy Beach neighborhood. Beach I is located to the north, near Used to Be’s bar and restaurant, and Beach II is in the middle, though it has no parking lot and is generally utilized only by surfers and anglers.<\/p>\n
