Brick Township officials this week awarded contracts for two roadway elevation projects in flood-prone neighborhoods. The elevations will physically raise the surface height of the roads and come alongside improved drainage work.<\/p>\n

A major project consists of road elevations in the northern, Brick Township portion of the Normandy Beach neighborhood on the barrier island. The second phase of a larger project completed with state-funding in cooperation with Toms River \u2013 which has jurisdiction over the southern portion of the neighborhood \u2013 the roadways marked for elevation include Broad Avenue, Arrow Court and Normandy Drive.<\/p>\n

The council unanimously awarded a contract for the project to the lowest bidder, Meco Inc., of Clarksburg, N.J., $1,448,992.<\/p>\n

A similar project almost directly across the bay, in the mainland lagoon community of Shore Acres, was also awarded a contract this week. This project includes the elevation of the roadway, drainage and infrastructure improvements to Bay View Drive, from Drum Point Road to Adair Drive.<\/p>\n

Meco Inc. was also the low bidder on the Shore Acres project, with the council likewise awarding the contract unanimously in the amount of $701,538.<\/p>\n

The start dates for both projects will be determined following pre-construction meetings now that the contracts have awarded. Residents of both neighborhoods will receive notifications as to when the work will begin and when they may need to move vehicles off the street.<\/p>\n
