Girls Youth Softball is on the rise both locally and around the country, and Brick Little League has placed itself at the center of the sport\u2019s resurgence by starting a Little League-affiliated recreational girls\u2019 softball league.<\/p>\n

Last spring, Brick Little League and Brick Mayor Lisa Crate and other elected officials celebrated 50 years of girls playing Little League Baseball during Brick Little Legue\u2019s Opening Day ceremonies. This year, the Little League organizers have announced they will introduce a full girls\u2019 softball program for girls ages 9 to 12 who reside in Brick. Crate was recognized by the league for her accomplishment as the first elected female mayor of Brick and was presented a plaque and a bouquet of flowers from the League\u2019s girl players and volunteers during the ceremony.<\/p>\n

The new program for girls will be offered by Brick Little League and will be played at the softball field at Herbertsville Park, as well as the Toms River Little League and Jackson-Holbrook Little League, with indoor practices held at Brick Little League. At the conclusion of the recreation season, the league will be forming two All-Star teams that will compete in Little League-sanctioned All-Star tournaments starting in New Jersey District 18. The tournament can go as far as an NJ Section, NJ State, East Region and even a Little League World Series Softball Tournament berth in Grenville, N.C.<\/p>\n

The Brick Township Recreation Department will continue to run its successful Brick Girls Softball Program for girls in grades 2 through 12.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have a lot of girls who play in our tee-ball and coach-pitch divisions which go up to age 8, but then we have seen a drop off in participation with girls when they go up to our Minors and Majors Divisions starting at age nine,\u201d new Brick Little League President Steve Gogal said. \u201cNow with this new program, the league will be able to give the girls the same Little League experience the boys get, including the chance to raise All Star Tournament Championship banners. We wanted to thank the Mayor Lisa Crate, the Brick Township Recreation Department and Committee, and everyone at the township who helped support this new program as part of our League.\u201d<\/p>\n
