County and local police have announced an enforcement detail on two state highways this Thursday following a spate of recent accidents, authorities announced yesterday.<\/p>\n

The multi-county effort has been organized by the prosecutor\u2019s offices in Ocean and Monmouth counties, and will be carried out by the police departments in Brick, Toms River, Lakewood, Manchester and Lakehurst. The detail was spurred by an increase in fatal accidents since the beginning of the year. As of March 18, 2025, 101 people have lost their lives on New Jersey roadways; 13 of those deaths have occurred in Ocean County.<\/p>\n

The detail is scheduled for Thursday, March 27, 2025, from 3 to 7 p.m. Participating police departments will focus their attention on Route 70 in Ocean County and portions of Route 35 in Monmouth and Ocean counties. Between both counties, traffic on approximately 55 miles of roadway will see an uptick in enforcement.<\/p>\n

The enforcement detail is part of an initiative known as \u201cGoal: Zero,\u201d which sets the lofty goal of zero crashes, injuries or deaths on state highways.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are committed to holding reckless drivers accountable and enforcing traffic laws to reduce crashes,\u201d Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley Billhimer said in a statement. \u201cEvery decision behind the wheel matters \u2013 speeding, distracted driving, and impaired driving puts lives at risk. Ensuring highway safety is a shared responsibility. Traffic crashes are preventable, and this initiative is about saving lives through enforcement, education, and community engagement.\u201d<\/p>\n
