The Brick Township Housing Authority is accepting applications under two housing assistance programs, one of which opened last week and one that opened Monday. Both programs would place applicants on a waiting list.<\/p>\n

The Housing Choice Voucher program opened for applications on Monday. Under this program, a rental subsidy may be provided to \u201cvery low-income families,\u201d the elderly and disabled persons who wish to live in privately-owned housing and receive rental assistance.<\/p>\n

An eligible applicant is issued a voucher in an amount determined by income and family composition. Privately-owned housing must meet federal Housing Quality Standards to ensure the health and safety of program participants. The Brick authority currently administers about 120 voucher clients. The Housing Choice program is \u201cmobile,\u201d meaning participation can be transferred anywhere else in the United States as long as the local housing authority in that area is also accepting new applications. Applications are accepted at the Housing Authority\u2019s website<\/a>.<\/p>\n

According to a public notice, only preliminary applications for Military Veterans (residing anywhere in the USA) and residents living and\/or working in Brick will be accepted. If a person does not qualify for one of these categories, their preliminary application will be rejected automatically. Residency or work location proof will be required at the initial interview. Those who served in the military will be asked to provide their DD-214 discharge paperwork.<\/p>\n

The authority is also accepting applications to join the waitlist for the Rental Assistance Demonstration-Project Based Voucher program. In this program, applications for which began to be accepted May 1, the voucher is tied to a specific housing unit \u2013 not the tenant \u2013 meaning the assistance remains with the unit even if the tenant moves out. These applications are also being accepted on the authority\u2019s website<\/a>.<\/p>\n
