This year marks the 75th anniversary of the Korean conflict, often termed America\u2019s \u201cforgotten war\u201d due to its overshadowing by World War II, which ended in 1945. The Brick branch of the Ocean County Library will host a special presentation on the war, its history and its lasting impacts on society later this month.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Korean Conflict: America\u2019s Forgotten War\u201d will be presented at the library at 11 a.m., Wednesday, June 25, 2025. Historian and author Paul Zigo, Director of the World War II Era Studies Institute, will conduct the presentation on the anniversary of the date that hostilities reached boiling point.<\/p>\n

Zigo, a retired U.S. Army colonel, followed 30 years of military service by creating more than 20 presentations of global warfare and politics from World War I to the Vietnam conflict. He is the author of several books including \u201cWhen Men Have to Die: Harry J. Whittinghill\u2019s Memoir of the Bataan Death March\u201d and \u201cUnconditional Surrender: Witnessing History \u2013 May 1945,\u201d both of which are available at the Ocean County Library.<\/p>\n

The timing of the event coincides with the events of June 25, 1950, when more than 90,000 North Korean troops trained by the Soviet Union poured over the 38th parallel. Three brutal years of battle led to the deaths of more than 54,000 Americans who tried to stop Communism from engulfing the peninsula. The presentation will cover various aspects of the war and the armistice that ended it \u2013 a pact that is still in place today with monumental geopolitical consequences.<\/p>\n
